Suda 51 thinks Video Games will become the dominant form of
entertainment, seeks to expand his horizons in the medium
Suda 51 sounds off on his upcoming feature Killer is Dead as well as his thoughts on the video game industry. An excerpt from his interview with EDGE Online:
I think videogames are becoming an important, and a dominant, form of entertainment worldwide. And in that landscape, I truly feel that our shooters, racers and our mainstream games have been covered, checked off and done well. To really push games into the realm of culture and art, I feel that only doing realistic mainstream games won’t be enough; we need to pursue new frontiers and new horizons with what we do, and the process of creation shouldn’t be contained.
Suda lays out why I don’t care for the word “Gamer." If everyone is a Gamer, then nobody is. At this point, there’s no one I know that doesn’t play video games in some form or another. Video Games becoming the dominant medium is imminent.
I also couldn’t agree more that the “mature" title market is a bit over-saturated. At this point (as far as video games are concerned) there’s nothing more bland to me than a car or a gun. Unless that car can shoot Blue Shells or that gun can fire Photon. [❤] [✦]
