Your idea of Nintendo DS U is smart, but Nintendo probably thought about that already! They already have the ability to connect your DS to the Wii (i.e. Pokemon Colosseum where you can use your Pokemon Diamond/Pearl Pokemon to battle in game) So I'm sure they're a few steps ahead! :3 Not arguing just noticed it and totally agree. Wii U is a big 3DS lol.

But yes, some games had connectivity. BUT. They haven’t allowed us since the Gamecube to actually play cartridges. Connectivty isn’t the same as being able to play 3DS games. Both are awesome functions though. I loved playing on the island in GC Animal Crossing, as well as playing Four Swords Adventures with friends.
